PM Problem Sessions

The PM Problem Sessions is a periodic virtual meetup for Product Managers interested in conducting group mentoring sessions. During each session 2-3 participants share the background of their organization and product(s). Then proceed to explain to the forum a particular issue they would like group feedback on.

I was inspired to conduct these sessions from a similar process used at the monthly The Product Group meetups held in NYC. There, typically only a single person presents and generally gets some terrific feedback and ideas to takeaway.

Launched in May 2020, there has already been a solid response of potential participants. Soon we will host our first meeting. In order to improve the likelihood of robust on conversation I am going to:

  • Limit the number of initial participants (target is 10)
  • Request that most participants have at least 3 years of Product Management experience under their belts
  • Lean the products under discussion toward B2B/enterprise software
  • Favor US timezone scheduling

Those that do not fit, will certainly be invited to future sessions. I hope to make this a running program and find a way to vary the audience to encourage different voices to engage. Further, the initial rules for participation are not hard and fast, but simply a goal to give the initial sessions the best odds of success.
